Not exclusively elites or about America - my single most unpopular-but-vindicated prediction was "Russia will not in fact be able to capture Kyiv in under 2 weeks." I knew people who thought it was a question of "48 hours or 24 hours." Not elites! Communist bartender types.

It's somewhat frustrating, because there *is* a national level valence to Mamdani's campaign, but it is specifically the result of national press figures who tried to turn this local election into a referendum on if Muslims are American. The import is coming FROM the NYT!
