Even just a piece of printed paper in Arial font assigning people tables can make a huge difference. It doesn’t need to be elaborate, but just help them out.

I went to one open seating wedding, and it worked because the couple mostly had friends from groups and it was a small wedding at a venue with plenty of space for people to conglomerate around tables with their group. I’ve been to many more with seating charts I’ve been very grateful for.
