How did I so completely, fully, totally become my mother.
Ok it’s all jumpsuits all the time, plus like two alternate options, one with big pants and one with normal pants but maybe my department of invisible labor tee

Ok so what is my conference packing strategy? Funny pants every day? Only jumpsuits?

But I thought social scientists could just study LLMs now.
new paper by Sean Westwood:

With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research

This is, of course, a fascinating thread from Kate asking why Google is effectively cannibalizing its own market for both digital ads on third party properties and search ads, by effectively taking away the incentive to click through to third party sites. I have a theory as to why they're doing it.
So this ad revenue metric is indicative of such a fascinating and weird set of business decisions by Google to inexplicably kill of SEO-- and I honestly don't get how they think this is going to pay off for them in the long run.

Makes a great “white elephant” if the goal is making coworkers or your church group wonder who has wronged you and what bionic secrets you hide.
Honored to have the cheapest book on this list. Give it to someone you like (or feel so-so about).

Keep scrolling, third from the bottom.

I’m being silly but am actually super excited to be on any list (outside of a burn book).

The weirdest part of AAA is always Friday night where, since I did not in fact graduate from ANY anthropology programs, I am just a hanger on to various department alumni parties

I have a lifetime to think about what a world without Alice in embodied form looks like. To have loved and been loved by her was one of the greatest privileges of my life. I will carry her spirit with me always.
Many thoughts about my cyborg bitch boss goddess accomplice Alice Wong & all the things she meant but there is a tendency for white disabled people to overshadow conversations about disabled BIPOC including in death. I choose to let Alice speak for herself & uplift those she wanted to represent her.

I can't tell you how excited I am to maybe, one day, own a couple sweaters that fit my body proportions properly because I MADE THEM
One side effect of being home sick for so many days is that I finished a long neglected beginner knitting project and I'm now applying my PhD level research drive to a new hobby

The foot skin thing was a legitimately brand new feeling. How often do you feel something brand new at 40???
End of day seven. I think -- just maybe -- I'm finally winning against Coxsackievirus. While I woke up to the skin peeling off the bottom of one of my feet, I do not feel like garbage this evening for once. I might even pick away at the pile of undone work from last week??

If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts
