Once my visiting brother in law (not drunk) went on a quest to find something called Big Slice (having misremembered a recommendation for Jumbo Slice). He ended up in a VERY sketchy party of the city.

Multiple things can be true at once! Patients who need better pain management aren't getting it, and opioids with known potential for addiction/dependence were overprescribed for many years.

There are small moments of the narrator's horror at his own actions throughout the book, btw, even as he tries to justify them. He describes Lolita crying herself to sleep every night after he abuses and isolates her. People who think the book is pro-CSA need to read it again more carefully.
