Too bad he came along a time when the Italian film industry was is such doldrums. He really is a talented filmmaker.

It had been quite a long time since I'd watched it. I didn't remember it being so funny.

It's definitely not for everyone. Or even for most people. Those are usually my favorite films.

Another good line: "I'd give my life to be dead."

I guess there are two kinds of people. One kind sees a strange or surreal film, recoils, and shuts it off. The other kind moves closer to the screen and becomes enraptured.

As a child, I was mostly a loner and never felt like I fit in. I also had a wild imagination. On one level at least, Xtro shows how that (very relatable to me) child character is making sense of his strange situation by applying the power of his unfettered imagination.

And Soon the Darkness has been on my watch list for a long time but I've never gotten to it. It might even be hanging out on the DVR. 🤔

Like a lot of video-store era kids, I used to read that the heavily edited US version was incoherent because of the 40 minutes excised from the film. Then the full director's cut became available ... and it still doesn't make sense. 😄 It's all vibes, as you say.

It's such a bizarre film that embraces the weirdness with gusto. Yet is still strongly character driven.

Great! One of my favorites from that year.

That's another great double. There's definitely an overlapping off-kilter vibe with those two (aside from the presence of Mimsy Farmer, of course)
