Our specially trained agents have been told to send you a stale oatmeal-raisin cookie if you try to coax them into agreeing with your cancellable take.

I have a horrible feeling that, even though they'd be trained professionals sworn to secrecy, the quality of your cookie would depend on how much you restrained yourself on the call.

I'm taking no chances, I want chocolate chip dammit.

You said it so much better than my own gnashing-of-teeth version ever could 😂

What I love about @dieworkwear.bsky.social is that he's so scrupulously fair. An assessment - good and bad - about the style and production details. And the killer point about being tailored abroad dropped so casually. It's the epitome of "draw your own conclusions" and it's marvelous.

I think romance/erotica has always done pretty well on Smashwords, so that's probably giving me an advantage. I was surprised by Apple sales, though!

My metadata game could probably be much better, but all that stuff confuses me. I wish I could give you good advice there!

Someone has to have written "Dot-Com Dracula" already, right?!

The vampire trying to persuade me: Your soul and your blood are such a small price to pay, for the marvels I can show you.

Me, pulling up the calculator on my phone: Wait, tell me about the compound interest on a savings account you opened in 1819 again.

Its rate was definitely better when I signed up, but having the Apple Card daily cashback automatically funneled into savings has been a nice feature.

I like the art, but I feel like the text needs to be bigger. Definitely the author name: when I zoom out, so that it's typical thumbnail size, I can just about read the title (the lower text is a smudge at that point).

If you're an iPhone user, the Apple Card savings account is currently at 3.65% and very easy to manage. I imagine it'd be less convenient if you didn't have an Apple device, mind.

KDP remains my #1 for sales; D2D is #2 (of D2D, Smashwords is clear #1, followed by Apple). Itch sales were solid, and rising, then dived during the whole adult-shadowban thing and haven't recovered. I keep looking at direct sales, but dealing with payment processors puts me off.

It's like Being Perceived except I'm not even there to try to diffuse the anxiety with self-deprecating humor 😭

AI might seem like a shortcut around that need to practice, but it would be cheating myself out of the opportunity to get better.
November 28, 2025 at 6:16 PM
I'm self-conscious of my mediocrity at making book covers. I can be pretty self-critical at how there are far, far better writers out there, writing stories I am epically jealous of! But I want to believe that my writing gets better each time, because every story is practice and a chance to improve.

Am I now singing "Bag of Dicks" to the tune of "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins? Yes, yes I am.
November 28, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Well, as it was a story about helping a small business, reading it in a home office seems entirely appropriate! 🤣

I am a strong believer in locking yourself in a bathroom, regardless of the day 😂
