I can see what you mean that in the way DND does it, it feels dissonant. I guess I just mean is it possible in general to have both lighthearted happy adventure type characters and a ton of combat without it coming across as dissonant like that or "squeecore", ya know?

I dont play DND much so maybe it's more obviously annoying in person, but is it really that bad if characters are nice to each other and progressive and also fight a ton of people? I feel like that's most action stuff with a likeable cast and you can do it without going full squeecore with it right?

Ah ok awesome, then I definitely agree there! Engaging with children's stuff can be fine but you shouldn't *only* engage with it. Like Coraline is a cool movie and I liked it myself but if your start and end with horror was just a children's movie that'd be a huge disservice to yourself lol
