There needs to be massive pushback against Farage's narrative about how he was only 11 / 12 and it being pointed out reports show he was an adult - 18 - at the time he was doing this.

He was 12 in 1976. He was 18 in 1982.

Whilst racism was rife in the 70s, Nazi-ism wasn't acceptable throughout.

I share this with respect for the many excellent journalists at the BBC.

And with the hope that transparency helps strengthen, not weaken, our democratic culture. /5

It’s especially ironic because the lecture is exactly about the ‘paralyzing cowardice’ of today’s elites.

About universities, corporations and media networks bending the knee to authoritarianism. /4

This has happened against my wishes, and I’m genuinely dismayed by it.

Not because people can’t disagree with my words, but because self-censorship driven by fear (Trump threatening to sue the BBC) should concern all of us. /3

This sentence was taken out of a lecture they commissioned, reviewed through the full editorial process, and recorded four weeks ago in front of 500 people in the BBC Radio Theatre.

I was told the decision came from the highest levels within the BBC. /2

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

It's a real mystery why we're seemingly stuck in a permanent low-growth, high inflation, broken-public-services doom-loop.
The UK is losing up to £250m a day in lost tax revenue due to the economic impact of Brexit, House of Commons Library analysis for the Lib Dems suggests.

Brexit has blown a "black hole of [up to] £90 billion a year in the public finances" the party says. Even under lower estimates the hit is ~£65bn

I run out of money when I want to obstruct something too
Why Nigel Farage, is the scale of it too big?

Maybe you could ask Arron Banks to fund it!

Rattled.
Sweaty top lip.

Keep the pressure on him.
Oh Farage actually used the "banter" defence.

He's quite literally copying the Bernard Manning playbook

bsky.app/profile/raks...
ITV Evening News had another few seconds of this interview, where he says it’s “banter on a playground”

Farage starts to say “But, isn’t it funny…”

ITV: “Okay, so you did say stuff to these people then?”

NF: “I've never directly racially abused anybody. No.”

What was funny, Nigel? 🤔

When the racist comedian Bernard Manning fell out of fashion in more tolerant times and stopped appearing on TV he defended his long history of appalling offensive "jokes" as nothing more than "banter"and insisted that he "had a go at everyone".

This is the Bernard Manning defence.

Nigel Farage once asked for the endorsement of the former Conservative MP Enoch Powell... Farage unsuccessfully requested the backing of the rightwinger Powell in 1994 and Ukip later twice asked the politician to stand as a candidate for the party.

I'm rustling up a tentative hypothesis that Anglo-American populism has peaked.
Conservatives have today ditched their Mass Deportation Bill, 5 months after Chris Philip tabled it in the Commons, but a week after it was dubbed the Idi Amin Tribute Act, as it proposed Deportations of settled & legal migrants on a scale never seen since 1972 & never proposed in a democracy before
