For some reason, this makes me think about how one year I was listening to a Rosh Hashanah radio program with the apartment windows open, and when they blew the shofar, our neighbor's urban goats all started bleating back.

Also: I put together a book list for this piece, as I do sometimes when what I'm doing in one essay will be wildly inadequate for the topic.
