Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Literally stole their name for a service-member from the forgettable live-service shooter Destiny, its flag from Starfleet when their mission is fairly antithetical to the United Federation of Planets, and uniforms from Starship Troopers (ok, that one actually fits).

A fair bargain for the higher ed ecosystem, in my view, is build a world class public university system that costs $0 to attend and let the Ivy+ schools go back to being (mostly) finishing schools for rich kids.
