2/ TLDR: When LV dysfxn is present, β-blockers offer benefit across reduced EF ranges. But if LVEF isn’t impaired, you may not need them. Strong role in HFrEF (EF<40%), benefit (↓death/MI/HF) in EF 40–49%, and likely no role in HFpEF or post-MI with preserved EF #medsky #pharmsky #emimcc #cardiosky

Ceftriaxone, ceftazidime, cefepime, mero, all safe b’c they lack or have dissimilar R chains! Agreed, aztreonam-vanc and cipro-clinda are horrible combos to use just b/c avoiding this “cross-sensitivity”

Thnx for this Josh! It still amazes me how references still suggest avoiding BL Abxs d/t this misconception & misunderstanding. IgE-mediated allergic rxn to PEN is b/c of R-side chain. Adding caveat, cannot use BL if TENS/SJS since immune-mediated
