I find myself wanting to post something like this A LOT but just sigh and delete instead, which I call great personal growth

All us movie geeks here hate David Zaslav as Cinema intended us to but *damn* if the people actually getting movies made for Warners (DeLuca and Abdy, if I am not mistaken) are killing it right now: they did my three favorite movies of the year so far. SINNERS, WEAPONS, and ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER.

I have been reading about the GDT take on Count of Monte Cristo for years (I need this movie in my life, it's that simple) and, while I am sure it has evolved over that time, I can only hope it would remain a "steampunk Gothic western" were he to make it today

A key takeaway from all this has to be "You don't have to listen to Republicans anymore." They're either perpetrators of fascism or suckers who fell for it. If you have conservative views we can consider them again in 50 years or so

Born February 22, 1975, Drew Barrymore is 18,530 days old today, matching Wilford Brimley’s age on the day ‘Cocoon’ was released. Congrats Drew! You’ve reached the Brimley/Cocoon Line.

Counterpoint: you're a moron if you think Guillermo Del Goddamn Toro of all people would approach this any differently; there have been a million versions that go the other way; I'm curious as to what sort of "happy ending" Disney bullshit you mean, as what I saw was not something I'd call a party
Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ is a little too in love with the monster. Jacob Elordi is phenomenal as the Creature, but the film’s happy ending saps the character of its original complexity.

Libraries purchase books. When you see a book at the library, it isn’t “free”

the library bought it.

which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.

The night is now and the time is finally here. Swashbuckles and adventures, belly laughs and single/double/triple entendres, the entertainments abound within these films. I shall partake, and enjoy🔥🔥🔥

Feels like a tribute to THE BLOB '88 by way of THE FACULTY. Also it's as much about life post-Covid as anything, weirdly? Anyway: it's fun stupid, has a great soundtrack, is super watchable nonsense that I enjoyed well enough to probably rewatch again down the road one day.
3 stars at least.
Saturday night, good time, hell yeah: let's get some.
