Thrilled to share our latest work: how plants control growth through activation of a surface-specific growth programme. Thanks @zoenv.bsky.social, @nathan-german.bsky.social and the other coauthors for all the hard work! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Plant cells at the organ surface use mechanical cues to activate a specific growth control programme
During morphogenesis of multicellular organs, cells acquire distinct identities that meet specific functional requirements. Epidermal identity is widely considered essential for plant morphogenesis du...

Our new work lead by Anuphon. Cryo Structure of CARD1 reveals copper in the ecodomain, required for sensing H202. The phenotype of card1 is same as rbohd, suggesting ROS produced by RBOHD is sensed by CARD1.

Moisture-responsive root-branching pathways identified in diverse maize breeding germplasm
Plants grow complex root systems to extract unevenly distributed resources from soils. Spatial differences in soil moisture are perceived by root tips, leading to the patterning of new root branches t...

Great work by Chaudhary et al. (2025) on how #FERONIA (FER), a cell wall integrity sensor, is essential for limiting #PlantCellWall damage and preventing cell rupture during #brassinosteroid (BR)-induced cell elongation in #Arabidopsis.
BR signaling promotes FER accumulation at the plasma membrane.

The blue-light photoreceptor CRY1 mediates pathogen-responsive stomatal movement and plant immunity via the light-responsive protein LURP1 and cell surface immune receptor FLS2!

www.cell.com/cell-host-mi...
The blue-light receptor CRY1 serves as a switch to balance photosynthesis and plant defense
Previously, photoreceptors were regarded as a switch for growth control. Hao et al. found that CRY1 acts as dual-control switch to regulate the growth-defense trade-off. LURP1 re-localizes to the plasma membrane upon N-terminal palmitoylation in a calcium- and blue-light-dependent manner after flg22 elicitation to activate immune receptors and promote immunity.
