It is worth noting that Adams’ misstep in not filing an official written ruling on *why* she decided to close hearings to the public is one reason the appellate court ruled that 19-year-old defendant Ayla King’s case needed to start over in jury selection proceedings. 3/4

It is unclear whether or not this hearing will be open to the public. The previous judge in the case, Judge Kimberly Adams, ruled unfavorably in regards to open hearings. This will be our first reveal to Judge Kevin Farmer, the new judge in the hearings. (Adams moved to family court.) 2/4

They add their counsel team has documented a number of incidents this has occurred over the last three years. The complaint goes further to argue that it is because of this policy that law enforcement killed Tortuguita in January 2023. 4/4
