David Roberts The one exception might be this station in Ballard. But of course, that's — I don't even know what, 2035 or some ridiculous distance from us. So I just — my question is, is there any prospect, is there any way that that Ballard line of Sound Transit could happen sooner? Is there a tool, a mechanism that could make that happen? Katie Wilson It's a good question and probably my honest answer is I don't know yet. And as mayor, I will have a seat on the Sound Transit Board. But there is also a lot that the city can do to make Sound Transit projects happen faster and less over budget. I'm not going to promise anything more than that, but the city can be more creative at actually using our right of way. My understanding of the way that it's often done now is that the city ends up trying to cobble together kind of purchases of private property and is kind of reluctant to actually use our right of way.

Got sandwiches from Grand Central, took them to the Seahurst to eat in the sun, let mouse run around and get her beach zoomies out, and then walked up past my favorite spot in the woods.

The licorice ferns are back 😍
PNW second growth woodland, with a stream running through it, ferns and mixed undergrowth, fallen trees, and some big leaf maples stretching out over the stream with other trees behind. It is wet, and leaves are starting to yellow and fall. There are licorice ferns and moss growing on the horizontal maple branches Large big leaf maple stretching over underbrush with ferns, salmon berries, elder berries and more. The trunk and branches of the maple are covered in delicate leafy green licorice ferns. A pathway through the woods with a big leaf maple growing next to and stretching over it. Dense green undergrowth shields grows right up to the edges of the trail, and hides the path of the trail as it curves. The maple trunk is covered in ferns on the top, and there are other trees behind.

I will literally be so happy if Seattle elects Katie Wilson and then passes an income tax.

Especially if it’s paired with a reduction in sales tax (a sales tax rebate?)?

Shortly after Donald Trump was first elected president in 2016, the Transit Riders Union and others lobbied City Hall to pass an income tax - pitching it as protection from a new federal regime - knowing it was likely illegal. The goal was to get the question back before the state's Supreme Court. It worked. While the tax was passed and then struck down, the courts cleared Seattle to pass a flat income tax if it wanted. It has yet to do so, but the court ruling expanded the menu of future tax options in a city that has chafed at its limits to bring in revenue. The organization's next focus was on taxing the city's largest corporations, organizing town halls to push City Hall to enact a form of a payroll tax that would hit Amazon and others. The effort helped lead to the much-discussed "head tax" of 2018. The measure passed, but was then quickly repealed by the City Council in the face of intense opposition and the threat of a referendum.

the state of transparency in the city of Seattle is ABYSMAL unless you are ICE apparently.
While many journalists and Seattleites wait years for the Seattle Police Department (SPD) to fulfill languishing public records requests, the SPD is fulfilling Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) requests for information in less than four days. After HardPressed previously received no response from Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell's office concerning how frequently the city was sharing records with ICE, HardPressed submitted a records request aiming to force disclosure of information. Four months after submitting this request, Harrell's office provided six pages of records as a first installment. (In comparison, the Mayor's office has previously provided hundreds of pages of records within an installment release. Harrell's office also pushed the estimated fulfillment date for the next installment of records past the city's mayoral election in November, where Harrell faces a formidable challenger in Katie Wilson.)
