Nicki Minaj is not a U.S. citizen; she was born in Trinidad and Tobago and moved to the U.S. as a child.

She's going FULL MAGA to avoid ICE and being kidnapped.

But her fanbase is just crazy enough to eliminate ICE.

ICE, if you're reading this, arrest Nicki Minaj. I'm trying to see something.

Been watching all these throwback Black movies on YouTube, and I gotta say: #TheWood is still good as hell, all these years later 😭

I get flowers regularly for my ancestral altar and have this *exact* experience; people talking bout, “She’s so lucky!” and I’m looking at them like:

This new #SummerWalker album is so damn good, and the songs have so many layers

For example: #No doesn’t just sample Bey’s “Yes,” the hook is also a nod to #NoNoNo by Destiny’s Child! 🔥🔥🔥

This also helps explain the attacks on critical race theory and critical race theorists in particular
Mamdani got a humanities degree.

His win helps to illustrate that one of the central forces driving higher ed’s dissolution of the humanities is the fear that teaching people how power works can also lead to their interest in seizing it on behalf of the less powerful.

The racist and misogynist myth of the “Welfare Queen” is alive and well. The focus on SNAP has brought it back to national prominence. But please note: It never, ever went away. It shows up all the time. The entire trope around undeserving people has a poisonous line through our policies.

While this is hard to confront, it’s absolutely the truth. We are in the midst of a Second Redemption (google “redemption” to find out what happened during the first one)
The Jan 6 insurrection was successful, & now it gets to be preserved as a success by this administration it brought to power.

This is why I think Dems aren’t going to come back to power in the foreseeable future: rather than offer a vision for a multiracial, inclusive future, they keep offering a future where only white people will be treated as full citizens

I’m loving this season of #ProjectRunway. Not just talented contestants, but love the energy/realness that #LawRoach brings. I’ve been seeing a lot of yt folks say it’s “too dramatic” and that they won’t watch anymore, but I think they actually just dislike seeing a Black femme who’s opinionated 💅🏾

Re-upping this from November. Some of us have consistently tried to warn about what was to come. Many of us were treated as hysterical.

We have a two-part dilemma: (1) we don’t have a *national* movement fighting back against all of this, and (2) building that type of movement feels impossible when so many white & other non-Black people gleefully and willingly chose this.

Things are rapidly deteriorating, and I fear for the future.
Larry Summers: "This is way beyond anything Nixon ever did ... this is the stuff of democracies giving way to authoritarianism. Firing statisticians goes with threatening the heads of newspapers, launching assaults on universities, launching assaults on law firms. This is really scary stuff."

Sometimes I think of how only two generations of us were even allowed to attend these settler colonial ass universities in tiny, awkward handfuls, and how even that was too much

I find these times to be terrifying, especially because I know that they are NOT unprecedented: for the majority of this country’s history, Black people have been subjected to the whims of white people, whether private citizens or police officers — there was no “rule of law” that applied to us.
This will have to count as my Supreme Court term review.

I make that point that there's no point in reviewing what the Supreme Court has done because the rule of law is dead in this country anyway.

My latest in @thenation.com
The Rule of Law Is Dead in the US
The rule of law presupposes that there are rules that provide a consistent, repeatable, and knowable set of outcomes. That’s no longer the case.
