all trump talks about is why america as it is sucks.

but social media is also why such groups are dysfunctional to begin with. tendencies that would be curbed prior to it are rewarded, and it also raises coordination and cooperation costs and inhibits the growth of leadership and organization. easier to believe they’d be more sensible without it

without social media, there is no way that many people would be exposed to so many flavors of non mainstream beliefs….and familiarity can breed contempt, as opposed to having a more neutral POV borne of lack of contact with actual practitioners

i think social media in and of itself probably has been catastrophic for such movements, both because it exposes people intimately to them (who wouldn’t otherwise see them)….but also because it mitigates against such movements becoming competent

not really conservative enough to see eye to eye a lot of the time with people older than me. but enough to really doubt that most alternative movements in US could run a lemonade stand
