As I've said, a great benefit of a democracy is that bad leaders are removed by just making them regular people, free to live a full, common life. So many powerful people need and deserve to become normal people again, and if that's such an awful penance then WTF did we all do to deserve it instead?

So far there has been a TD and an interception where UNH tipped the ball and it perfectly went to a South Dakota State player. The INT went to a defender who had already slipped and was just sitting on the ground. So I think 8:30pm is as good a time as any to go to bed.

A weird thing about having a PhD is when a show gives a mysterious character a PhD to make them seem unflappable and untouchable you're immediately able to see every ounce of unavoidable shit that character would have gotten during their viva and any subsequent staff meeting

I hope the next time Business Boys talk about corporate tax cuts and subsidies as no-brainers that put money in the wise and proper hands that someone in the room just repeats "hey, remember 'AI'? Remember when you guys did 'AI'?" until they trudge away like a data center project just got voted down

If someone can find one please let us know, but next week’s 1st round matchup between Yale and Youngstown appears to be the 1st time in the history of college football that two teams whose schools start with “Y” have played each other.

"Well what about Wyoming?" I thought, for a nanosecond, causing my linguistics PhD to burst into flames
"The students aren't listening because they're wearing sweatpants" is a novel approach from a transportation secretary, but this administration is committed to representing every colour of the rainbow of guys that everyone hates
Trump's Transportation Secretary on how to improve air travel:
"People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly... We want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season, help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

Funny how executives talk about AI like the guys in Superbad talk about sex: "Oh yeah it's amazing, everyone's doing it, and so you *know* we're also doing it. What exactly are we doing? Oh, you know, the things. We do the things that make the- uh, that the ladies love."

Something I found fascinating from YouTube reactors watching Andor was how sure they were that villains would do a face-turn and become good rebels. So I guess it's not surprising to see twee "MTG, welcome to the resistance" stuff. Enjoy the wilderness, you earned it, is the only proper outcome.

No more "networking". We're back to friends. No more 4D opportunity chess. Your character is officially reflected in whom you surround yourself with again. This late capitalism "every individual is a storefront and everyone else a potential customer to be courted" social rot is in the bin.

Humans create make-believe. We draw arbitrary lines. We say you need to grab this object and get a foot inside the lines before going out. Generations pass, learning and perfecting new ways to accomplish that goal and to prevent it from happening. And such genuinely impressive things happen.

A nice thing about Conversation Analysis is going to a data session after a long downtime and getting that comforting pick-up sports sensation of "alright, I can still play"

Had a Ratatouille-style flashback to giving a conference presentation over Zoom and finding out that the software was helpfully filtering out all the "backround noise" of the crowds cheering in my crowd cheering data 😅
"But SURELY you can just autotranscribe your data" 😂😂😂😂

I often think of Chaplin's line: "the misery now upon is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress". Especially on hopeful days when the news frantically pumps a dousing from the gullet of any scared, bitter man it can find, out of concern for greed's safety.
