#onmyturntable Jeff Walton - Danger Boy (1983). Debut solo EP (and only solo release) by the bass player for Houston new wave band The Judy's. Title track, which contains the fattest synth patches in history, was used in the b-movie Blood Debts. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Nine Inch Nails - Tron Ares Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (2025). A properly menacing NIN album, with some nice quiet moments. "Who Wants To Live Forever" with guest vox by Judeline is a highlight. Word is the movie stinks, but it isn't because of the music. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup (2025 reissue). It was apparently a turning point in the band's sound, moving away from Krautrock drones, toward more loop-based compositions. This is new to me, so I need more listens to get a handle on it. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Orbital - Orbital 2 (2025 reissue). Decided to try this again, after the first play sounded so bad. Still sounded like sandpaper, so ran the discs through the ultrasonic, now sounds fantastic! Side 2, man... "Lush" and "Impact" melt my brain every time. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Slowdive - Pygmalion (2012 reissue). Hanging on the couch this afternoon with the cat and a book, and this absolutely fits the mood. Haven't played this in quite some time. #vinylsky

The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown - The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown (1968 reissue). Side 1 track 3 is "Fire", which is probably what everybody knows them for. The rest is... hard to get into. Rolling Stone called it "English eccentricity at its most daft." Yup, 💯. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable The Ventures - Walk Don't Run (1960). Debut album from one of the early instrumental surf pioneers. Title track "Walk, Don't Run" is still a total jam even after 65 years. And "Sleep Walk" on side 2 is an absolute classic. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Various artists - A Life In Yes: The Chris Squire Tribute (2018). A bunch of Yes covers, mostly written or co-written by the late Chris Squire, plus a couple covers of other bands featuring bass by Squire. Just through the first side, good stuff so far. #vinylsky

Random record find: a lyric contest, found on the inner sleeve of a record released in 1959. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Agent Orange - This Is The Voice (1986). This was the soundtrack to one of the Bones Brigade skate videos; highest quality California skater rock. Instantly takes me back to my misspent teenage years. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable 65daysofstatic - No Man's Sky: Music From An Infinite Universe (2016 2×LP version). A bit of a post-rock masterpiece. Contrary to popular opinion, I very much loved this game when it first came out; this music was a big part of why. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Henry Mancini - The Music From Peter Gunn (1959). Mancini did so much fantastic soundtrack work over his career. This album won the Grammy for album of the year in 1959, the first year they ever awarded it, and was added to the US National Recording Registry in 2010. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Various artists - Shut Down (1963). Another from my parents' catalog. A bunch of car- and racing-themed songs, some really fun stuff. I've always loved the title track "Shut Down" by the Beach Boys. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Duane Eddy - Have 'Twangy' Guitar Will Travel (1958). Another from my parents' collection. Debut album from a surf rock pioneer, spent 82(!) weeks on the US album chart. Eddy had a bit of a comeback in 1986 with the Art Of Noise's reworking of the Peter Gunn theme. #vinylsky

Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice In Chains.

#onmyturntable The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out (1962 reissue). Going through my parents' collection, and this absolute classic needed to be played. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable The Donnas - Gold Medal (2025 reissue). Pressed in a really cool "gold smoke" clear yellow with a tiny bit of black swirl. Starts off with a bang with one of my favorite Donnas tracks "I Don't Want To Know". A totally solid rock album. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable The Buggles - The Age Of Plastic (1983 reissue). Originally released in 1980, "Video Killed The Radio Star" was of course the first video ever shown on the then-fledgling MTV. Been looking for this one for a long time, finally found this nice clean copy. #vinylsky

Away from home for the week, and missing my family something fierce. The human one is the most important, but I'll leave them their privacy. The fuzzy one, on the other hand...

#onmyturntable Yes - Close To The Edge (1972). Closing out our morning of prog epics with one of the all-time greats; the title track's lyrics were inspired by Hesse's novel Siddhartha. Wakeman's second appearance with the band, and Bruford's last before he left to join King Crimson. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery (1973). More prog epics for today - Karn Evil 9 is one of their classics, and spans about ¾ of the album. Their last "hard prog" studio album before their so-so Works records. #vinylsky

#onmyturntable Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick (1972). One of my favorites from Ian and the boys. The writing and musicianship here is absolutely top tier. The faux newspaper jacket is a treasure trove of hilarity. #vinylsky
