Let’s all try something different here on bsky: pretend the heart button doesn’t exist, and instead let’s *talk* with each other. I’d much rather have a conversation about how something is important to you or me, than get a million hearts from faceless people.

Interesting, I thankfully haven't seen many warped discs. We've gotten a couple that got cracked in shipping, which is always a bummer.

I think this Orbital disc skipped because there was so much crud in the grooves. The difference before and after cleaning was pretty shocking.
#onmyturntable Nine Inch Nails - Tron Ares Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (2025). A properly menacing NIN album, with some nice quiet moments. "Who Wants To Live Forever" with guest vox by Judeline is a highlight. Word is the movie stinks, but it isn't because of the music. #vinylsky
My GURPS players tomorrow will be awash in NPCs. Soooo many NPCs... These should hopefully be some fun encounters.
#onmyturntable Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup (2025 reissue). It was apparently a turning point in the band's sound, moving away from Krautrock drones, toward more loop-based compositions. This is new to me, so I need more listens to get a handle on it. #vinylsky
Fellow #bakingsky peeps, has anybody done any interesting baking with jack-o-lantern pumpkins? They roast and pulp just like the sweet ones, but are more savory; we tried a standard pie recipe once, but it was not so good. Might have been interesting with like rosemary/sage type spices?
I always enjoyed writing assembler, which is as close to machine code as I ever got. I kind of miss it sometimes, but for most of what I write it's not really needed.
NVIDIA's claiming of that $500G from the various insolvent hangers-on as somehow "real" income smacks of Enron-style mark-to-market accounting, which... we all know how well that turned out.
I'm sure they've seen it all. Blue hands is probably pretty minor stuff. 😀
I've had it on CD for years, only just got the LP a couple months ago. Those three (four?) tracks are a sonic assault, in the best possible way.
Has anybody else seen brand new pressings that needed a thorough cleaning just to be playable? This thing crackled and popped and skipped like crazy right out of the shrink wrap. Seems like they ought to be clean from the factory? Maybe some plants have poorer quality control than others?
#onmyturntable Orbital - Orbital 2 (2025 reissue). Decided to try this again, after the first play sounded so bad. Still sounded like sandpaper, so ran the discs through the ultrasonic, now sounds fantastic! Side 2, man... "Lush" and "Impact" melt my brain every time. #vinylsky
The siren song... that's nothing but trouble.

Apparently some folks are playing real dumb about skull symbols so let’s play a little game I like to call “Nazi skull or not a Nazi skull”

First up, the Jolly Roger. This is a pirate skull, not a Nazi skull. It means you might get robbed, but prolly not genocided.

With me so far? 1/x
#onmyturntable Slowdive - Pygmalion (2012 reissue). Hanging on the couch this afternoon with the cat and a book, and this absolutely fits the mood. Haven't played this in quite some time. #vinylsky
I would totally welcome a new space race, but no chance with this... regime.
Aaron also plays bass, but for Earth, Wind & Fire.
And then finding the right setting to soften butter to spread on your perfectly-toasted bread.
Songs From The Wood, Heavy Horses, and Stormwatch is probably my favorite Tull "era". A whole lot of folk rock through those three albums, good good stuff.
They have absolutely not been "diving into your niche". Formletter spam.
Soooo... basically Crackling Oat Bran, except probably not as good?
"Just keep sprawling" isn't the only possibility; there are plenty of alternatives: more inclusive zoning, infill development, urban growth boundaries, better transit, incentives for companies could flip from "get more people downtown" to "let people stay off the roads when not necessary".
Oh man, the dot bomb is going to look like a mild sniffle compared to what's coming when the markets finally realize the extent of the LLM scam.
They opened up for part of REM's "Work Tour" in 1987, and somehow I ended up with a copy of their album The Sound Of Music. I had completely forgotten about that disc, but we put a needle on it a few months back, and it was pretty good.
