Jason Statham, aka Mr. January, is back with another action thriller, Shelter. If there was ever any question… The King of January is Jason Statham. He’s back to reclaim (as if he ever needed to reclaim it) his crown and kingdom with his newest film, Shelter. The action thriller directed by Ric Roman Waugh is another in the series of the SCU (that’s the Statham Cinematic Universe for those not in the know), where an endless supply of rogue government adjacent entities mess with the wrong lone wolf ex-special ops badass, and said lone wolf ex-special ops badass takes everything down.

There is murder afoot at a secluded island resort, and Hercule Poirot is on the case in Evil Under the Sun. New to 4K UHD from Kino Lorber. The Films Murder Mysteries are my cinematic catnip. Since seeing Clue as a kid, the concept of solving a crime has been an intriguing one.  Though I love the genre and one of its greatest heroes, Hercule Poirot,

That is often what I think about films like Snakes on a Plane. The zeitgeist-y type of film that many just shrug at now. One that people have seen countless times on TBS or TNT (Bill Simmons devotes an entire podcast to them … The Rewatchables).

The Robert Altman High School Cult Comedy O.C. and Stiggs makes its Blu-ray debut thanks to Radiance Films.   The Film There really wasn’t a genre that Robert Altman didn’t touch. Including the 80’s High School Comedy made so famous by John Hughes. Unlike Hughes, Altman’s film was so radically punk rock and by that definition anti-authoritarian that it went sight unseen (for the most part) during the 80s.

A family is torn apart in the Anniversary, the new thriller starring Diane Lane and Madeline Brewer. It should be said upfront, Anniversary, the new film from Polish Filmmaker Jan Komasa, is not for everyone. Komasa has made a film that slowly turns the noose around the shiny veneer of upper-middle-class existence and freedom until it’s left gasping for its final breaths.

Dan Curtis’ Classic Monsters brings the Director/Writer/Producer’s adaptations of three classic monsters restored to Blu-ray, thanks to Kino Lorber. The Film Dracula It’s always interesting how someone chooses to adapt Bram Stoker’s often-told horror classic. Though the structure remains the same, you often find the nuances within that structure change significantly, giving you a varied result. Dan Curtis’s Dracula adaptation has interesting changes but allows for a truly wickedly fun performance by the vampy Jack Palance as the Count.
