In a victory for Californians – and everyone who has rallied against Trump's unlawful military deployments, a federal judge rejected the administration's assertion that it could deploy troops anywhere government personnel or federal property could be harmed.

The Fair Representation Act (AB 690) will finally fix the problem by banning flat-fee contracts.

☎️ The Senate Appropriations Committee is currently debating whether to advance it. Call the Chair, Sen. Caballero (D-Fresno) at (916) 651-4014 to express support for AB 690.

Eight of the 10 counties with the highest incarceration rates in the state use flat-fee contracts exclusively, including all of the top 5.

Flat fees pay lawyers the same amount of money no matter how much work they do on a case. The less time they spend, the more lucrative the fee.

Yet instead of listening to community input and lawmaker concerns, the policy lobby is trying once again to pass a bill that will lock in the unchecked and abusive ways that police use attack dogs.

3️⃣ In Santa Ana, the City threatened to prosecute a faith-based charity for providing aid to unhoused people at a church resource center.

2️⃣ In Fremont, the City Council passed an ordinance making it a crime to hand out resources like food and water earlier this year. The ordinance was reversed only after public outcry.
