I like math, I make drugs.
I was up late one night as an undergrad doing homework or something and this song came up. From that point forward, whenever I wasn't feeling like it was worth it, I'd play this song and just keep going.

I’m in the process of building an ADU in my backyard here in California. I don’t understand what the quote skeet is saying. We definitely are getting permits from the county (it’s an unincorporated city).

@questauthority.bsky.social Another confirmed potato famine.

My wife put me on keto, so at least one potato famine.

I'm also thinking of this as an educator, and I think it's important to teach things in a way that the students will find appealing and engaging.

no interest in stuff outside of their field of study. They see education as a way to improve their lives financially. I don't think that's a wrong view. Growing up I saw an engineering degree as an assurance that I wouldn't have to work in a chicken processing plant when I grew up.

I do confess to being a chemical engineer, and I'm partial to the utilitarian view of education. But I did wish I had more than one elective as an undergrad, and I took classes like African Drumming in grad school. Given that, I think we need to accept the reality that there are folks who just have

Like I once had to teach a basic science class to nursing majors (this was volunteering in another country after grad school). So when I was teaching moment arms I was talking about the force generated from a short leg vs a long leg when kicking. But this took... a lot of effort on my part.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect someone studying criminal justice to have some understanding of chemistry. I mean thats kind of the basis of a lot of the evidence generated in criminal cases. I think the key is to have classes tailored to that and similar majors.

I don't want shingles. That's about all I can say. Well that and I don't want other folks to get shingles :). I hope you got the vaccine or will get it soon. Folks don't appreciate how debilitating it can be.
December 9, 2025 at 5:33 PM
I turned 50 this year. That was the cutoff for our insurance. I haven’t looked at the PI but I think that is when the vaccine is indicated.

I work in drug development, so I told her I was aware of this stuff. But she would have. They are pretty thorough. But folks have to get to the pharmacist. If they are reading stuffon FB these people probably won’t get to that step. I’ll ask her when I go back for my second dose & see what she says
December 9, 2025 at 6:08 AM
I got the first dose of the shingles vaccine a couple weeks ago. The pharmacist was actually telling me about the potential side effects. She was like: this one is pretty bad.

I have a question. When does these go from being a bicycle to scooter/motorcycle? I assume that if you have an electric bike that goes fast enough it would be regulated like a motor vehicle. I'm just curious where that transition happens.

It's weird a kind of voyeurism. Nuzzi is like one of the forgotten gods in American Gods. She needs this attention to keep going, and folks just keep giving it to her.

Knowing nothing else this would be a good heuristic. Given all the shit he's done to pander to the right (throwing transfolks under the bus, chatting it up with Bannon and friends, etc.), he shouldn't be on anyones short list.

I miss Heroes. I wish it had a few more seasons.
December 8, 2025 at 2:46 PM
Yeah. I don't deal with patients, at least not professionally. Which is good for me. I don't think I could do it long term. My sister is a nurse and she has a much better disposition for these things than I do.
December 8, 2025 at 2:43 PM
In that instance it's best to just apologize and give them the Tylenol. Folks just aren't in their right mind in times like that.

Minimizing the frequency of infusions is actually a factor when we create new drugs. So it's nice that the infusion trips are actually good for him.

I really hope it helps your father. These are really horrible diseases for the patients and their loved ones.
December 8, 2025 at 2:20 PM
Same about aduhelm. False hope is part of it. The AEs are not insignificant as well. The other thing is that there are other trials out there and this can interfere with those too. But I'm sympathetic to the patients. I mean they want something.
