fyi images of Shanhai jing available today were drawn in the 16-17th century. Here is a fun fact, some of them are far different from the original description. This is 2. Qu-ru (a duck with a human face), but it’s obviously a pheasant with a bird face. So it’s ok to ignore some prompt text imo.

Start the challenge anytime. You don’t have to draw every day for a month. It’s fine to draw just a few of them. (Needless to say, don’t use Gen AI)
Here are examples: 4. Shang-fu (a three-headed, three-winged, six-legged chicken) and 28. Chu-niao (a six-headed blue bird) #30WeirdAncientBirds

2/8 In birds, it seems natural to order numbers from smallest to largest in a line from left to right, something that was believed to be cultural and specific to humans, but which turns out to have deep roots in nature.

Yeah! I just threw them in a cast iron with some oil so they didn't stick + sprinkled on a bit of salt at the end. I think because they eat acorns (which are delicious), they come out tastier than, say, crickets or mealworms.

Too bad acorn weevil larva are difficult to harvest in bulk...!
