Speaking of cats (see previous post), over the years the cats damaged our fancy speakers to the point of requiring replacement. So we got new recessed ones with a metal grill, pictured here. Sooo much better—the cats can’t use them to sharpen their claws on the fabric or interior speaker membranes.

Please enjoy this photo of Sir Percival Softpaws looking over his shoulder wondering what the strange noises are upstairs. Is it a ghost or a human? (Spoiler: it was a human.)

Do you enjoy classic 1960s retro-futuristic naïveté and optimism? Then may I recommend Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is _so_ into its own world that you can’t help but to enjoy your suspension of disbelief and delight in the romp of it. Simple plot, dialogue, and ideas—it needs nothing more.

We have no internet! Something is wrong with our modem. Julia had me detour to the Xfinity store on the way home to get a new one and I got there 8 minutes after they closed. So that’s wonderful.

Ages ago, Sir Percival Softpaws knocked a vase with water in it onto our subwoofer, ruining it. ☹️ Today, we got a new one and omg I missed it so much. It’s marvelously able to vibrate the walls apart and I am so in love with it. I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I heard it again. 😃

Tonight, on an all-new #DnD, my character begins with 8 HP in the middle of a fight!

When was the last time you encountered a TV show that you couldn’t stop thinking about because of the questions and issues it raised? Here’s one: PLUR1BUS, of which there are only two episodes available right now but I want to rewatch them right now. Sci-fi, yes, but there’s way more going on. Way.

Ah, this is fabulous actually—this is exactly what I was envisioning as my around-the-house outfit when Player Housing launches!

Do you enjoy definitive masterworks that set an entirely new standard for a centuries-old story? Then may I recommend Frankenstein (2025), which is, in every way, the best depiction of the story ever put to film. The production design is amazing. Cinematography stunning. The acting spot on.

On the matter of GOP migration:

‘Some will frame this as betrayal. It’s not. It’s survival. The GOP cannot sustain itself […] by isolationism abroad and populism at home. […] Eventually, voters tire of performative anger and want competence.’

Do you enjoy psychological/supernatural thrillers that may or may not be supernatural? Then may I recommend Session 9, a horror-ish movie that you’ll think you’ve figured out early-ish on, but you haven’t really, then later you also haven’t really, and that behavior makes this film worth watching.

Visited the same phlebotomist twice in a week’s time. First for my yearly jabs, then today for my physical and a couple bonus jabs. She replaced the blood she took with Tylenol and microchips. I should be getting good Reptilian internet reception here soon. 🤞

I voted—a couple weeks ago! 😄🇺🇸 I hope there’s a bit of a shakeup here and there.

Bad: Being woken by a chirping low-battery smoke alarm at 1:30 am.

Worse: Replacing the old battery with one that is apparently also too old.

Luckily: having more than one spare battery on hand—and getting one that silences the chirps.

I hope I can get back to sleep! 😅

Do you enjoy horror anthologies? Me either, generally, but I kept watching this even after I realized it was an anthology because it executed so well. I’m not a fan of the ending (a seemingly universal problem with this genre) but each story is set up and presented well enough for good scares.
November 1, 2025 at 7:36 PM
Do you enjoy low quality Liam Neeson action films? Then may I recommend Ice Road: Vengeance, the sequel to Ice Road that has almost nothing to do with the original—or ice roads. A ridiculous script is nominally executed by everyone in the production, top to bottom.

String of expletives. We’re not getting a picture on our TV from our Apple TV. Right now no idea what’s wrong. We’ve ordered a new HDMI cable. Perhaps that will help? Otherwise…something wrong with the receiver? Apl TV seems responsive to commands.

Not knowing what’s wrong is the worst. Blargh. ☹️

Oof. Beginning to feel the effects of my flu and covid vax from yesterday. 💉💉

About that, by the by: I couldn’t schedule covid, but could flu. I asked in person for covid and it was no problem at all.

I asked if the covid would give me a little or a lot autism. She said “Depends on the microchip.”

Super weird. I heard what I thought was the garage door open then a minute or so later close. Julia was up and downstairs at the time and didn’t do it. I checked around and found nothing amiss.

Do you enjoy Ultra Tense realistic modern thrillers? Then may I recommend House of Dynamite, which tells the same story by rewinding the clock through different characters. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. Well directed and performed. You should see it.

Ms. Opal Huntress and Sir Percival Softpaws went to the vet for checkups today and I must call out Opal for being the bravest she’s ever been! When she returned home she didn’t immediately run and hide and is even now walking around downstairs like it’s just another day. Such brave! Many courage!
