So yes you can have more than 8 dudes and 4 ponies but why? The game requires you equip them, but keeping everyone outfitted with properly leveled

Now another thing is that it wants you to be able to choose how big your warband is but really really pushes you towards around 8. Too few means you can't do the Cursed Villages which are required to finish areas, but more importantly the essential jobs each band needs someone to do can't all be

but they aren't actually good enough to be used. Even something as good as A Bear isn't nearly as tanky as a brute, massively less damage and less utility while counting as 1.5 unites for the games Adaptive Difficulty, meaning two brutes means two enemy unites were as 2 bears means 3 enemy unites.
