Programming as a field needs to generate, probably, trillions of lines of code a year. Generating that volume has never been a problem, you could always buy code fairly cheaply. The quality of that code *has* been a massive problem.

Using new hardware to make frame times smaller is a failure of imagination and absolutely should not be celebrated. It's one of the worst signs of the stagnation of the industry that frame times are expected to be sub 16ms.

Makers Guardian in Darksiders 2 is one of the best songs in any game ever. It's annoying it's not on the official soundtrack :(

Something really struck me yesterday, the Internet is easy to deshitify, you just have to stop interacting with corporations on it. The Internet existed before search engines, you don't actually need them. Reading jank.cool is such a pleasant experience compared to the ign mutants

One of the things that's always bothered me about seo but it goes for all sorts of "metrics". They treat clicks with equal merit. A click generated from something viral is a low quality click, it's an x1 multiplier.

As someone who's been reading rps since day 0, I've been desperate for this for a long time. Graham and Brendy are a big part of what made post founder RPS & I'm looking forward to reading more of Jon's words too!
A new website about PC games, from me, @brendyc.bsky.social and @jonhicks.com.

Reader-supported, which means no ads, no guff, and lots of games blogging about delightful things to play. If you liked our work on RPS, we think you'll like @jank.cool.

Something I think a lot about is that the decay of the internet started with the datacentre, it's optimal to distribute basically everything on the internet but currently storing data is optimal in a centralised data centre.

It's even worse than that, open ai know they can't produce the returns they promised investors by building ai so they've decided to use the money to manipulate a market that is vulnerable to supply contraction because it's run by a cartel, they've no intention of using the ram, they'll sell it

FFVII remake was honking, particularly the Kingdom Hearts ghosts, Advent Children ending and the boring Combat System. You can't even chain support materia together, that's the entire point in the materia system.
