Tomorrow begins the year of the Firehorse according to the Chinese lunar calendar. As a firehorse, I guess I should feel excited about it. However, this year is supposed to bring rapid, transformative change but given the current world situation I am not quite sure if this is a good thing.

Late Wednesday I flew from Schiphol to home. Chap sitting in the previous row watched movie on his phone. I leaned over to see what he was watching: a person squatting behind a tree and projectile pooping everywhere. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, apparently.

Some colleagues in Finland think that professors should wear gowns. Yesterday I was in Utrecht as a member of a PhD Assessment Committee (co-supervisor). Wonderful ceremony but I am still against gowns in Finland. You can see why 😂
