Everything he's reported to have said in this BBC piece sounds like he's desperately trying to distance himself, knowing that the connection is real and toxic. If the press were investigating Farage with the same enthusiasm they went for Rayner, he'd be done for.

Maybe he'll now remember how much he took from Putin's propaganda broadcaster Russia Today for all his TV appearances when he was a MEP?

Airey Neave's influence perhaps. He was hugely invested in the cause of refugees and the trust set up in his name post assassination - which Gow was later closely invested in - helped Vietnamese refugees.

Badenoch has cited Neave as her political hero. I suspect she knows nothing about any of that.
