the admin that imprisoned and tried to deport a student over a pro-Palestinian op-ed, calling it anti-semitism, calls outrage over "I love Hitler" texts by young Republicans "pearl-clutching"
Fascinating. Politico notes that when notified of the texts, many state-level Republicans fired or condemned these cretins. Now Vance emerges to excuse the racism, and calls the reaction to it "pearl clutching."

He seems determined to purge the party of its last enclaves of decency.

A child - a Black child - only 15 - was zip-tied and held by federal agents for hours, unable to contact his mother. Here in Chicago on the Southeast Side. tinyurl.com/BlackChildHeld @blockclubchi.bsky.social

This is what I'm planning to go for in my borrowed hotdog costume I'll wear in Chicago. No catsup, no dictators!

This version is confirmed, by Hoffman Estates police, puncturing the official DHS statement.

At this point, there is a statement from DHS re 🧊 activities in the Chicago area that’s refuted in similar fashion on nearly a daily basis at a minimum over the past week
Despite what some, including at DHS, are claiming, this video isn’t from a year ago in Chicago. It was Friday in Hoffman Estates, in my district, a street I’ve walked myself. It appears to show a child being violently detained by ICE. It’s real, and I’m demanding accountability.
Thank you for your service!

In Evanston: a last-minute protest against ICE, called just a couple hours ago, draws dozens of people to Oakton Street near where two people were abducted in front of a Home Depot yesterday. I need to run to cover City Council, but more people are still arriving.

I'm in the education field. It was not always this bad. Reading scores have dropped precipitously in the last five years among kids. Data suggests multiple factors including increase in screen time.

A third of 8th graders and 40 percent of 4th graders did not meet a "basic" reading level.

Fox addicts and cultists for sure don't know, but judging from my friends, it's also people who aren't on social media much in general, even if they lean anti-Trump. The daily intensity is not being covered at all.
It is legal to record ICE and we should do it.
ICE / Border Patrol threatening to arrest a cyclist for following and recording in Chicago
And yet regularly cannot find a link or file shared with me in the last week even when I tell it who sent it and what the topic and date range is
Yes. I saw it in Chicago after a week of blatant white nationalist fascist violence playing out a few miles away, and disciplined, organized, nonviolent resistance to it. It sat wrong to see a film that used this struggle as background and joke fodder with nothing meaningful to say about it.

Happening now: at Kedzie and 40th, where Border Patrol agents just opened fire on rapid response this afternoon. A woman CFD says they found after the incident is reported in fair condition.

A growing number of outraged neighbors have gathered across from ICE/CBP agents who have closed Kedzie.
My mom is old school. She reads the Albuquerque Journal every morning and gets Time magazine. People like that are still out there. She votes, is a registered democrat, and has always swayed a bit on the issues. She despises this administration and every day despises it more.

This is due to a law signed by Ronald Reagan and has nothing to do with this shutdown fight.

But consider this...

Emergency Medicaid spending in 2023 cost $3.8 billion — just 0.4% of total Medicaid spending.

Now what about the $20 billion taxpayers are giving to Argentina?

Medicaid money has gone to hospitals to reimburse them for medical services after they followed the federal law signed by Ronald Reagan in 1986 that says hospital emergency rooms have to treat everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
REPORTER: US law already prohibits giving healthcare to illegal immigrants

LEAVITT: Are you denying that Medicaid money has never gone to illegal aliens?
Thanks for posting this. I was looking earlier and I saw next to nothing in the national press, which astounded me. I missed this.

I'm a researcher in Ed Tech/curriculum and I can tell you we're noticing a pendulum swing back to novels. People are trying to figure it out based on all of the above + lower reading levels, but they're interested.
Excited to announce that my novel COIN OF THE REALM will be published in 2027!

I started working on this so long ago. It's a dystopia set in the near future, but real events have made conditions worse, faster, than I imagined. Now I'm categorizing it as a cozy dystopia. Hope people read it.
.
All of the above plus reading levels and homework compliance have dropped dramatically, making it hard to get through a whole novel when it needs to be read aloud in the classroom.
