My poster on the life appearance of Megalosaurus, as presented at SVPCA 2024. A paper on this, and the history of M. reconstructions, is currently in the system and should (hopefully!) be published later this year. Posting this in the interim as a poss. useful #paleoart reference. #Sciart #dinosaur

Devonion fishies Elpistostege (close relative of the famous Tiktaalik) and couple of bothriolepis swimming by. Needs updating but still thinking this is one of my better paintings I have done
Day 7 of #50daysofchondrichthyan is the Sphenodus macer, a shark-like neoselachian with uncertain phylogenetic placement. Its bauplan is similar to the cow shark but this species has a wide jaw and enlarged pectoral fins

#paleoart #paleontology #sciart #shark #Sphenodus
Day 6 of #50daysofchondrichthyan is the serrated giant thresher shark; Alopias palatasi. Only known from isolated teeth but its tooth morphologies indicate that it might had similar lifestyle to the great white shark

#paleoart #paleontology #sciart #shark #Alopias
Day 5 of #50daysofchondrichthyan is the Hybodus, one of the most iconic extinct chondrichthyan with pairs of cephalic horns and fin spines. This animal is related to modern sharks and rays though its not a true shark

On yesterdays #paleostream we discovered the beauty that is Onychodus jaw mechanics.
After stream I tried to make sense of it and animated how I understand it.
Funny stuff.
This reconstruction mainly based on Evoincarnate ‘s skeletal on X
Too late for day 4 of #50daysofchondrichthyan but here the artwork is finally done

Cladoselache might look like a shark, but in fact this critter is one of the oldest representative of Holocephalan (Chimaera and kins)

Continuing #50daysofornithopods with one of the most common species in Morrison formation, a Camptosaurus dispar.

Day 3 of #50daysofchondrichthyan is Palaeocarcharias, the earliest known lamniform shark. This shark is likely to be or close to the ancestor of all lamniform sharks, such as the great white, mako, and megamouth shark

That true! I think this weirdo got mixed between megamouth shark and mahi mahi lol
The word "little" make me confused about its size lol
The proportion is mainly based on the reconstruction of @/fabioaleromero.bsky.social
Day 2 of #50daysofchondrichthyan is Orodus greggi, an enigmatic chimaera relative from Paleozoic era

Result from the Shanwang formation #paleostream!
Here I show the place during autumn, a scenario we weren't able to show yet. It's an interesting time of year to cover, not only because of the novel colors in the flora but also the behaviors that many ungulates show during this time.
Try to challenge myself by doing the #50daysofchondrichthyan

Day 1 is the Ptychodus, a Cretaceous pelagic crusher shark that might prey on ammonites and sea turtles

an attempted size reference for Quinkana fortirostrum from the Pleistocene of Australia
a lot of thought went into this one, trying to stick with the literature and known measurements, trying to pick a leg length that reflects the proposed terrestriality without overdoing it, etc...

I guess is time to get this account alive as it should, bringing my paperclips with it
