There's a certain poetry to the (admittedly romantic) notion that the Arab Spring was a sort of warm-up.
Threat priorities? A global French Revolution. Gangsters like Xi and Putin think they'll be able to ride it out. Trump? Who cares? His cabinet? Half of those nerds are grifters, and half are true believers in this-or-that cockamamie bullshit. So US, eh? Strongest institutions, strongest scaffolding.

MJ: "At least he's open and transparent about it." 😒

Why isn't Trump granting clemency to every Republican serving time for non-violent crimes? Obviously Santos has kompromat on a lawmaker or a big donor, but Karl won't go there.

Fing weak, Karl. Weak. Cowardly, even.

@jonathankarl.bsky.social
KARL: What do you make of Trump's pardon of George Santos?

JOHNSON: POTUS has the right under the Constitution. We believe in redemption

K: But is it ok for Trump to say he's pardoning someone bc they always vote Republican?

J: That's one snippet of what he said among many things about Santos
The secret-hoarder committing espionage is only one of many grave risks of mishandling classified info.

Bolton is being unfairly targeted, AND punishment should be criminal for intentional mishandling.

Both of these are (it seems to me) obviously true.

(Overclassification is a separate issue.)
I continue to think the appropriate punishment for mishandling classified information is the loss of access to classified information, but not criminal prosecution unless the person commits espionage. How did I end up defending the Rage Walrus? Fuck 2025.
What? Not sure your intent, but broad generalizations like this shouldn't pass unnoted.

We can agree that Bolton is being unfairly prosecuted. We can also agree that secrets are necessary.

This is how topics that deserve nuance turn into homogenous pulp in the wood chipper of populism.

I'm not saying Jimmy Wales should be President or anything, but if somebody put a gun to my head and demanded my political party affiliation, I would say, "Wikipedia," without hesitation.

Price of Russian oil fell below $50 per barrel.

In the port of Primorsk, Urals quotes dropped to $47.4, which is below the EU ceiling of $47.6.

Oil is getting cheaper due to the fall in global quotes, which have dropped by 15% over three weeks and are now at the level of $60 per barrel.
Radically new. This, in particular, has been such an important lesson for the USA. Comity and decorum should have been codified like every other constitutional institution. Huge oversight by the Founders.
Trump talks tough, inspired by his "wins" and certain idiots whispering in his ear, then he talks to Putin again, who scares the hell out of him with escalation threats (nuclear or otherwise), and we're back to square one. Rinse, repeat.
White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt:

In both of these conversations with both Putin and Zelensky, they were cordial, but very frank. And the president of the United States has said to both sides of this war, this has been going on for far too long. Far too many innocent people have been killed.
Like, not like. We've done this before. Thanks, man. Let's hang in there. JFC, something's gotta break in a good direction eventually, yes?

We'll mark the occasion. 🍻
You know what I say to 90% of everyone in the illicit drugs industry that I've personally ever dealt with? Thank you for your service.

Not being an infantile edgelord fuckwit, I'll explain.

The economy is complicated. Healthcare is complicated. Nobody is asking for Utopia. Just due consideration.
Nah. These are Cantor Fitzgerald SPACs. Coincidental names.

USAID budget was $37 billion and now the dictator is sending $40 billion to Argentina so that he can bail out his billionaire friends.
DOGE/cutting spending was all bullshit. We knew it then and it's clear now. It's about giving money to cronies on our dime.

Putin:

Our gas exports are down, but they will grow!
It's great news that Europe no longer buys Russian gas, we now sell to "more promising, responsible buyers" (at a huge discount).
Hopefully your reply is a reverse-jinx. 🤞🤞🤞

How far we've fallen, etc.
The strongest rebuke the US has sent Russia, since at least 2014, is being delivered by the least credible member of the least credible administration.

The predictive value of anything any member of this administration says is still zero, but that cuts both ways.

🤪🤷😔
