I think because my parents were so much closer to what you experienced that they were like, no little girl you won't be believing in fantasy- this is America. Heart breaking that these aren't required reading in every household.

At 9, lol! I do recommend but it gave me nightmares. I'd say 11 and up. But these parents gave me Roots in 6th grade - they did not play.
