This theory is novel but not the true answer. As Kathy Hochul is a committed Bills fan, her governorship follows the traditional Bills 2020s season format of a very good start, followed by a series of entirely avoidable losses, which then ends at a pivotal moment and leads to a long win streak.

Deeply infuriating that Rob Ortt had one of these guys on his payroll. He complains about non-existent "violent" rhetroic from Gov. Hochul but kept a vile racist in his office.

That Rob Ortt had connections with people in the chat should make it clear how deep this runs. As someone who knows NY politics well (& who unfortunately lives in Ortt's district), he's a loadbearing part of the NY GOP.

Nothing any random Dem staffer has said comes even close.

Maximalism is just a building block for political nihilism. An all or nothing, all must perfectly follow an ideological standard. It is not a test one is meant to pass, it is built with someone's inevitable failure in mind. That failure is then a reason to disengage and be cynical.

She also gave long television careers to Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil who were both grifters who, like most grifters, eventually pivoted to the far right.

And through all of this she's kept above the fray and has consistently (since '07) advocated for Democratic causes and candidates. It's an odd dynamic.

Great article could be written about how Oprah's impact on politics over the last few decades. Her Obama endorsement is (correctly) seen as a huge moment but she was giving a platform for Trump's politics all the way back to 1988 and she was Trump's pick for running mate in his aborted 2000 run.

Social conservatives are always trying to retroactively win the battles of 10 years ago, it's always an attempt to rewrite the past to change the context of the present. They hate that history and culture are complicated and that they don't get to pick and choose what sticks.
