When I was deployed as a member of the WV Guard, I also was concerned with making sure WV Guardsmen didn't notice me doing that l.

On September 28, soldiers from West Virginia patrolling D.C.'s Navy Yard area observed a man masturbating in public.

The soldiers "advised [him] to stop."

Police officers arrested him a little while later after they said they saw him peeing in front of a restaurant.

Been in one bar brawl that was mostly this, three seconds long, no punches connected, half the yapping guy's friends didn't do shit. We won, which was only because me and another guy had just gotten back from our deployment and reacted, but we still looked stupid as hell. No one got laid.

I get the sense that a staggeringly high percentage of guys who earnestly say with some regularity “fuck around and find out” simply do not understand that the real life versions of the street or bar fight they are picturing typically last a few seconds, don’t have defined winners, and look stupid

More like Nixon sabotaging the Paris peace talks in '68 to prevent a October surprise helping Humphrey and then expanding the bombing when he did get elected

"Tenured" writers defending each other's garbage like
George Carlin with quote "it's a big club and you ain't in it"

I also have a soft spot for Big Trouble, a bomb on a plane comedy that was supposed to be released on September 21 but obviously got pulled and dumped in the next spring. It's stupid but I enjoy it

I have a soft spot for the literal last one, Buffalo Soldiers (about corrupt soldiers in West Berlin), which has a limited release September 8, 2001 and those general release was pulled soon afterwards because it was too unpatriotic about the troops for the new climate.

Pretty sure MREs literally say that on some of the packaging. Thankfully I haven't had one in a long time

I can't find the anecdote's source, so grain of salt, but I remember reading about, as they sat for one of this administration's first WH briefings in January 2025, one reporter turning to another and saying "we're so back."

They hated Biden for not leaking. And yes, want Trump to rule us.

Remembering the cowards who said not to oppose this too loudly because foreign aid doesn't poll well and then packed off to elect a new DNC Chair over the long weekend at National Harbor instead

My wife just did this. She has no memory of it but it definitely woke the kids and we have to get them back to sleep. I think the neighbor's kids are crying too?

I was hootin' and hollerin' at the way they stopped selling the product at all to explain how to scan a QR code to their (I assume) septuagenarian and up target audience

It's almost like it's one of them pull polls
Far side comic of the kid going into the gifted school but pushing a door labeled pull

Blind Guardian's my favorite band but I'll admit I'm probably more impressed by what Maiden did with their twelfth:

I'm pretty happy with this one!

I went to WVU and yes.

Everything besides the Backyard Brawl is the same. All our season in a non conference game in September.

I'm convinced the only people who had their minds changed by the "Kamala is for they/them" ads were the Dem consultants and pundits whose brains they broke (or gave them a permission structure to do what they always wanted)

We believe Burns still has that bill hidden somewhere in his house. But all we've ascertained from satellite photos is that it's not on the roof.

Why must life be so hard?! Why must I fail at every attempt at masonry?!

what's the stupidest/randomest Simpsons quote that lives in your head rent free? Mine is the urge to say "you said go to bread" every time I am about to head to bed.

my latest is expanding on the observation that your view of the politics of opposition to the administration depend largely on your view of the election (gift link)

White people are basically the only ethnic group that doesn't overindex in enlistments. Even now. We'll see how that survives the racist shaving thing, think.

there's this assumption by the admin that there is an infinite supply of buff KKK members ready to fill the ranks of the military and ICE and I have bad news for them both about the overall number of KKK members and their general fitness level

Something our glorious Secretary of War does not seem to have considered is that the reason military PT and grooming standards, plus policies for EEO and abuse reporting, are the way they are is because they're necessary for recruitment and retention

Paxton also told John Ganz, after J6, that yeah, it's fascism

I doubt he knows anything about him either, but I bet he's seen the speech that opens the film (probably not the rest of it). I doubt he could place it but I bet it's floating around up there
