Our grid needs more electrons and it needs them fast. Xcel's proposal in Minnesota is NOT the right way to do this. We should be letting the private market lead and deploy batteries for 1/3 the cost of what Xcel is proposing in Minnesota.
Xcel wants to install high-voltage batteries across Minnesota for grid reliability and to support Minnesota’s carbon-free power mandate. Skeptics question whether a program that Xcel estimates could cost as much as $430 million over three years is a good use of ratepayer dollars.

Three high schoolers founded a book club that reads some of the country's most frequently banned books after a state law removing books with sexual content was signed in 2023. Two years later, many of the books have been reshelved and parts of the law can't be enforced.

Today on Volts: the folks at @rewiringamerica.bsky.social have an idea. Hyperscalers desperately need to free up grid capacity for data centers, right? Why not let them buy that capacity by paying for residential heat pumps & solar/storage systems? I discuss it w/ the head of RW & a rep from PG&E.
