All the white areas are exposed paper. I started with a charcoal base and erased my highlights as I worked.

How I turned myself into a bog witch:
1. Setting up the reference shoot.
2. The reference shoot. Probably 20-30 shots. In costume, ‘acting the character out’. Sounds so pretentious.
3. Preliminary sketch. This is where I flesh out the character and give them their identity
4. Final artwork.

The only thing in oil is the outer green border. Everything else is rendered in Derwent lightfast pencil with some of the tiniest flecks of white in the wings, hair and sugar cube in ink.
