I feel like the reason why Rolling Turtle from Kirby's Adventure was replaced by Phan Phan since Nightmare in Dream Land is that he looks similar to Gachapin, a character who first appeared in the Fuji TV children's program "Hirake! Ponkikki", and that HAL didn't want to get in copyright trouble.
