Great essay from @frank.computer!

"A chair orders you to sit and sit in a particular way, by its design.
Your being is intended through the tool: you are intended to sit still, face forward, and behave. Artificial intelligence works in exactly the same way."
Stop saying that AI is just a tool and it only matters how it is used
I’m tired of this phrase and this simple way of thinking about tools. This blog post is a wandering train of thought on the topic of what tools are and why it matters to be even slightly more mature i...

Europe’s digital market: compliance is no longer an afterthought. The AI Act, GDPR, DSA, DMA & others now form an interconnected web of obligations.

The strongest product leaders do not see these as roadblocks. They embed them into the product lifecycle so it becomes a competitive capability.

Growth looks great, but at what expense?

Scaling isn’t free & it’s not neutral - it changes economics, risk profile & organisational load. Product leaders need to ask: 'Are we scaling value & at what expense?'

Scaling a product is not longer a victory lap but an escalating test of responsibility.

Product could learn a lot from the finance industry, applying the same discipline - cost of capital, hurdle rates, risk‑adjusted bets, cost attribution, lifecycle value. This scaffolding could underpin more sustainable product decisions.

Digital business units are increasingly pressed not just for growth but for sustainable EBITDA; some products can turn a headline-grabbing launch into a balance sheet liability.

I recently set up on substack, wasn't aware of this issue - but one thing that making me want to leave already, is their utter appalling customer support. So this just seems like a more legitimate reason to go elsewhere.
you can tell substack knows things are shaky because its whole focus now is to add features to make itself a platform to try to lock people in. it’s the same thing i hate about patreon and what its leadership has been doing with product development.

🤣
That's right. Product manager has a coffee and a bullet journal and is "working" from his AirBnB in Maui. Project manager is generally unhappy that time exists. Don't forget this important distinction.

As a product you have to ask is @bsky.app too fixated on algorithmic engagement? Are people just tired, oh so tired, of being funnelled influencer garbage, or promoting celebs and those with some street cred. I do not follow somebody to only be shown somebody else...
Bluesky has a growth problem

Bluesky has hit 38M monthly users, up 8M since March

Once adding 5M users per month, it’s now slowed to 1.6M. A 60% drop

But post volume is falling—more users, less activity

It risks becoming a ghost town with a loyal but shrinking core

Decision discipline is how you build a business that moves when it matters, adapts when it must and never mistakes activity for progress.

- Intuition becomes the hypothesis.
- Data becomes the check.
- Discipline keeps the call sharp.

Legacy isn’t merely technical debt. It’s encoded business logic; pricing tiers, segmentation models, user roles. Such decisions were once made and fit for purpose, are now often outdated and inflexible.

You don't need to fix it all, but do make it visible.
