I was just telling a friend a few days ago how The Turn of the Screw is one of my favorite ghost stories, so maybe this is a good reason to re-read it.

The thesis of the paper was that having such rigid and specific roles in his household and society were contributors to anxiety in situations where he found himself outside them (such as being surrounded by strangers) vs. when he's in them (as he's described by his housekeeper, for example).

A wonderful day of baby bird sightings! On the way home from a salon, I got to hold up traffic to let a muscovy duck and gaggle of ducklings get across the street. And then, the ibises came back to feast on grubs in my yard. A parent and juvenile. They've been visiting since Friday.
