A red fox staring towards the camera. In front of him, a dead mouse it had just hunted and killed. It's standing between a snow bank and the side of a house during a snowstorm. Its left ear is partially torn.

Fox could get a little overwhelmed with the things life threw at her. She was the first to admit she found it hard to keep it all in perspective.
She was learning to take time away from everything when she felt that way.
She wasn’t hiding.
When she was ready she’d reconnect.

#31DaysOfHalloween #Gothtober
A vintage Halloween greeting card featuring a witch flying in a skeletal "aeroplane" that is being pulled by a large, grinning pumpkin. A black cat is sitting behind the witch in the plane. In the background, a crescent moon with a face is visible, and three owls are flying towards it.
The card has text that reads:
Top: "Hallowe'en Greeting"
Bottom: "'Tis Hallowe'en and I'm here again from the man in the Moon in an Aeroplane My charms are new and right up to date Go tell by the Cards your fortune and fate."

Goodnight from Warlewaste Hall, haunted by all the lives casually snuffed out to provide the taxidermy trophies hanging on its walls. Goodnight from Britannia Habard, sitting on the steps of her caravan and smoking an extra pipe for purposes of tephramancy. Goodnight from Hookland.

The witch knows water as spirit carrier, knows it as resonator between our bodies and enfolding otherworlds. Whether gifted as puddle in lane or hollow of felled tree, scrying mirrors are everywhere. Her fluid auguries suffer no drought. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #WitchSky

According to a Flemish folktale, a man was walking his two dogs at night when all of a sudden he saw a cat. He threw a stick at the cat because he suspected the animal was a witch. Five minutes later, he found himself surrounded by hundreds of cats who threw mud at him.

In 'Trick or Treat' (1952), Witch Hazel spies Donald tricking his nephews, so to even the odds she brews up a potion that has inanimate objects chasing after Donald, turning the tables for once on the dastardly duck.

This Blue Tit would like your attention, briefly.

📷 @aintright.bsky.social
A plump Blue Tit perched on a rough tree trunk, its feathers puffed up against the cold. The bird’s yellow chest looks bright and round, with a deep blue cap and white face framed by a bold black eye stripe. Its small, serious expression gives it the air of a tiny guardian of the woods. It looks as though it’s just confidently appeared in your feed.

🤍🐇🤍A white or pale-coated Hare was believed to be a Witch's Familiar - or the shapeshifted Witch herself. "I shall go into a hare..." haunting words from a charm revealed by Isobel Gowdie in 1662.

The Fox Brides of Hookland folklore are more than a placing the witch as a transforming thing, as shapeshifting seductress. They are a powerful linking of her power to woods and wild places; they are a fear-telling of ferality, her place outside society’s rigid structures. – #EmilyCBanting #WitchSky

Squirrel loved exploring and experiencing all the world had to offer.
He seemed like such a fearless little explorer, climbing higher and higher in his tree.
In fact, he was pretty scared most the time.
He just knew if you wanted the best views, you had to do the scary climbs.

Today's #WyrdWednesday theme is Witches! 🖤

As regular listeners will know, we love a witch story, and have told loads of them.

But do you know the truth behind England's most famous witch, Mother Shipton?

If not, we have an episode all about her - and her story is pretty flippin' odd...
