Fortunate to see a Red-throated Diver close up at Porthcawl Harbour this morning. Apparently it's been there for a few days so I hope it's okay health-wise. #birds #birdingWales @eastglambto.bsky.social @rspbcymru.bsky.social

Encouraged by very mild temperatures, I gave the moth trap a go last night. My reward was a single December Moth. Also three Light Brown Apple Moths and the winter gnat Trichocera annulata. #teammoth

After many years looking - I found my first live Columbus Crab (Planes minutus) hiding in a pile of Goose Barnacles attached to float/rope washed up at Whitford Point, Gower, South Wales

Popped it in a rock pool which will be a shock after drifting across the Atlantic

Spent a couple of hours down at Llanrhidian for the roost. Pallid Harrier spent most of her time perched on a distant post before joining with a couple of Hen Harriers at last light. Kestrel pair actively hunting with Red Kite and Buzzard adding to the list. Chiffchaff and a GWE also. #birdingWales

A short train journey to the north of Cardiff this morning to have a look at a Great Northern Diver on Llanishen reservoir. As is usual it kept well away from the shore but the light was good enough to use the 1.4x converter so managed a couple of photos #birdingWales #UKbirding #birds

I had a late surprise this afternoon with this juvenile Dartford Warbler in my net. The species breed on the cliffs here but it’s taken 6 years for one to stray into the garden nets. Species 70 on the garden ringing list #BirdRinging #GowerBirds #DartfordWarbler @gowerbirds.bsky.social

Pleasantly suprised to see six Pale-bellied Brent Geese feeding on the saltmarsh quite close to the beach car park at Point of Ayr. This area is often used for dog walking but thankfully it was undisturbed for much of this afternoon. No sign of the Bufflehead, though. #birdingWales
