She is a 65-year-old indigenous woman and she was carrying Tribal identification - which is all she fucking needs to carry. You may know her from her role in the 1990s as Marilyn Whirlwind in the television series 'Northern Exposure,' or maybe from her recent role on 'The Last of Us.' Elaine is a an enrolled citizen of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. She was born there and lived on that Reservation in Eastern Oregon until age 3 and moved with her family from there to Renton (just south of Seattle). While standing at a bus stop Seattle, she was approached by a bunch of useless, jack-boot dickbags. She displayed her tribal identification only to have these dumb motherfuckers say it was "fake" and that "anyone could make one of those." “Tribal IDs—the government issued those damn cards to us like a pedigree dog! It’s not fake!” said Elaine Miles to Lakota People’s Law Project. “Teach your fuckin goons that!” This should piss everyone off. EVERYONE. (It SHOULD, but I digress...) For me personally, it pisses me off for two additional reasons over and above "this is fucking wrong." Firstly, I have...excuse me, I HAD a friend who is indigenous on his mother's side and absolutely looks like someone ICE would hassle. He married an indigenous woman and they have two very brown children who absolutely have been harassed over the years by people telling them to "go back where they came from." But this dipshit ex-friend is a Trumper. He and his wife are both right-wing crumb maidens who fully believe they are immune to things that are happening to "others." It's fucking embarrassing. So seeing this makes me extra angry - not for them, but for their now-adult kids, because we have a fascist-run government who are sending their gestapo out to shake everyone down who "doesn't look right".
