Facts* about our miniatures:

1. When you're not looking they come to life

2. They're cast in the fiery depths of an active volcano

3. You are guaranteed to roll more sixes when they're on the table

*Facts may not actually be facts in the technical sense of the word.

I'm currently designing my next wave of miniatures for the Jewish Revolts against Rome. So far I have 3 new characters I will produce - Alan is going to start sculpting them in a few weeks 😀 But I also want a new pack of 3 missile troops. I'm thinking slings rather than bows this time around?

thread of how to scratchbuild a cave? okay then.

1) leftover Styrofoam packing, roughly cut to shape and size, separated into several interlocking pieces as it needs to fit inside our existing display cases. purple worm for scale!

just imagine this miniature homage to 1e AD&D is finished and not just a rushed dry mockup in a spare hour between hospital runs and food prep
Styrofoam packing very loosely cut into a cavern setting of stalagmites and stalactites, with a hungry-looking purple worm resting there.

This is really cool. Following along with great curiosity.

After a long weekend in Harrogate at a wedding, I got home to find this had landed on my doorstep. Guess that's my reading sorted (and don't be surprised if I end up starting a Carnival of Chaos warband 😅)

I have a zero AI policy. Do not contact me if you use AI art. I will not work with or support games, companies & etc who use it.

No this isn’t a “I hate ai because it’s cool too” post. This is an I’m an artist, environmentalists, and I’ll use my own brain, post. I prefer humans and real art.
No to ai generated images

It's the best time of the year again. ORKTOBER! I'm starting a little late but tonight I've been assembling some Deffkoptors for my 3rd edition Speedfreaks army.

As an fyi to anyone else who sees this, this bundle is absolutely worth getting your hands on. I got it a couple of years ago and it made a huge difference to my photography.

Lighting is absolutely critical. I struggled with that for a while but I now use a decent ring light. Occasionally just use daylight but prefer artificial as I can control it.

@battlegames.bsky.social has done a couple of articles on the subject.

Painting eyes can be difficult, although these days I like to think I get it right most of the time. I didn't quite get it right on this mini though, but he kinda reminds me of the Joey from Friends meme so I haven't fixed it yet 😂

Depends what mood I'm in and what I'm doing it for. If it's for a magazine article or my website it'll be the proper camera. But for social media just the phone camera. The quality of both is pretty good TBF, but I find the proper camera a little easier to adjust for bigger photos.

One of my goals this winter is to work on my photography skills. I really enjoy taking photos of minis, but I struggle with taking larger group shots. Once I've (finally) moved house I hope to have a dedicated space (albeit not a permanent setup) I can use so I'll be able to practice more easily.

I'm painting up a new batch of rebels, and decided that I'd convert Simeon to be holding a looted Roman shield. This was very simple, I just snipped off the dagger so his fist could be glued into the shield.

I did, however, feel a tad guilty about snipping off some of Alan's lovely sculpting 😬

Thank you, having a nice set up to do photos with really makes a difference. Plus it's more fun than using a plain light box!

This morning I've been having fun doing a little photoshoot with my Jewish Rebels using the Deserts and Warmer Climes backdrop book from @handiworkgames.bsky.social on the scenic plinth I finished yesterday.

For commercial peeps, licenses can be bought here: handiwork.games/licensing-fo....

Tonight I've started making myself a scenic plinth to take photos of minis with. This was done using the following guide handiwork.games/product/maki... which is well worth a look (if you haven't already you definitely should invest in some of Jon's backdrop books while you're there!)

It's funny how some minis just inspire you. Over the past few weeks (and more) I haven't been in the mood for painting due to real life getting in the way. But something about these minis had me really invested and I literally spent all day yesterday painting them. Now I'm feeling much better!

While the wind rages outside I am busy putting the finishing touches to my next design brief for Alan. It's going to be a "mini" wave (pun intended) as I'm only planning to release 3 models, each of which will be a named historical character. So it's a small release but hopefully an interesting one.

Getting parcels from @fenrisgames.com & @badsquiddogames.bsky.social at the same time is a fantastic way to end the week!

As well as fab minis I got @handiworkgames.bsky.social Deserts & Warmer Climes backdrop book which looks excellent. Even my cat Avery has had fun with the colourful packaging.
