This is a great thread on why we need this missing link in the cycle network. Please fill in the consultation
📯Huge Opportunity for Public Space Improvement

Do you want to see a joined-up #BeeNetwork in #GreaterManchester?

Then have your say on this impressive proposal for Seymour Grove.

It's ambitious on paper, but local Councillors need confidence that there's public backing to approve it.

Seymour Grove Cycleway options. Loving the geometry of this Cyclops junction.
This bollard is not good - dark even in daylight, dangerous after dark. The explanation is that it is there to force cyclists onto the shared path to the left. Never mind cyclists who want to go straight on the A56, or turn right on to Davyhulme Road East
Seymour Grove phase 2. The network is building.

With apologies for the very late re-posting, this is such a shame. Urmston has cycle stands outside most businesses on Flixton Road as well as the cycle stands outside the railway station, 2 sets in Eden Square and 1 set outside the library. All designed to enable and encourage cycling to the shops
So today I needed to get to Timperley, Gtr M/cr. No bike racks in the village centre, where all the shops are, so I didn’t cycle. It’s a real shame. @walkridetrafford.bsky.social

On 5 July, partners in Trafford are marking the NHS’s birthday at Stretford Parkrun, Longford Park. A simple way to connect, move and support wellbeing.

Might be one to raise at the next Walking, Wheeling & Cycling forum. The network is building but very slowly
That wonderful cycle lane sandwiched between two lanes of traffic
Part of a regular journey that I make by bicycle. It's a right turn across FOUR lanes of motor traffic. @trafford-council.bsky.social Now the infra through Stretford has been done, can this be next?

We had a great day hosting our #SchoolStreets conference on Friday alongside @walkridegm.org.uk, with such inspiring speakers. It was an excellent opportunity to share good practice, and the pop-up School Street was a huge hit! Next one in October. @stocksyatlarge.bsky.social #GreaterManchester
There was a question on this post somewhere (else?) that is no longer visible which was where/how to resafely rejoin the main carriageway if going straight ahead towards Sale etc
Designed in danger?
The segregated cycleway along Chester Road passes the junction with Christie Road. Traffic is often queued south bound because of red lights and drivers kindly leave gaps for drivers from the north bound carriageway to turn into Christie Road
Have you joined the Walk Ride Discord chat Sunil?
Cyclists are unsighted at this point as are the drivers. Drivers turning seem to feel they should clear quickly because they have been granted a favour. This lady spotted both the cars luckily.

70% of wheelchair users said pavement parking was a regular problem, forcing them into the road.

London can ban pavement parking; why can't the rest of the country?

There seems to be widespread support for it; for example, 78% of Daily Express readers back a ban.

Let's do it.

Very welcome to hear the Transport Secretary using this line:

“Enrique Penalosa, a former mayor of Bogota (the capital of Colombia), once said: ‘An advanced city is not one where the poor have to own a car, but one where the rich choose to use public transport’.

That’s a vision I believe in.”
Transport Secretary says there is no ‘war on motorists’
Heidi Alexander insisted ‘no serious person’ is suggesting tradespeople should ‘swap their van for a bus’.

Old Trafford Active travel morning
They’ll be there every Tuesday morning (unless it’s pouring down) from 10 am from 25th March for a couple of hours or so & gradually work their way up the lane starting at the brewery end. It is a long lane so the more the merrier! Please bring your own loppers, secateurs, sweeping brush, shovel etc
Call for volunteers: Friends of Oldfield Lane (Altrincham).
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ….to help give Oldfield Lane a bit of love.
The friends plan to cut back the overhanging brambles and hawthorn and sweep the lane so that it is wider and better for walkers, cyclists and riders.

🚧 Construction of the Chapel St East scheme is confirmed to start immediately after Easter 🚧
It would be great to get funding for a counter on Talbot Road as mentioned by Aidan Williams
February 2025 has been a good one for the Oxford Road Cycleway. For the first time in February, over 6,000 cyclists were recorded in a day and over 3,000 northbound (25 Feb). Factoring in last February's extra day, we saw 7% growth overall, and new monthly records in either direction.
Finally, there was a generous comment that if another council wins the Walk Ride award next year then we are all winners. Well done again Trafford council for being well deserved winners.
The excellent public health team are mentioned for engaging with Highways & finding new ways to win hearts and minds. Beat the Streets was one of the successful activation events last year & the School streets across Trafford have brought fun (& cleaner air) to the school journey
Gaps have been identified which need to be filled to connect north Trafford to the excellent network in Salford & to connect Seymour Grove to the successful Chorlton cycleway. White City was mentioned as a horror show - will we see the Trafford version of the Hovenring?
This is such a good podcast & from a Trafford perspective it is good to listen to the enthusiasm of Tom & Aidan for building a cohesive network from what initially looked like random bits of infrastructure. It is acknowledged that now the challenge is to keep up the momentum
Ever wanted to know what council leaders think about active travel?

We sat down with Trafford Council leader @tomwross.bsky.social and his Exec for Climate Aidan Williams to discus taking home the Best Council award and their determination to continue delivery in the borough.
