“…progressive policymaking is the main motive behind her campaign, Martinez-Rutherford said. But the representation her position in the Legislature would have for members of the LGBTQ+ community, and young transgender people in particular, is an important piece too.”

“If the last election told anybody anything, I'm not seeking power. I'm doing it because people need it,” she said. “They need voices that are not traditional…They need somebody who's going to understand what it's like to feel the ache of poverty every day and still move on and still have hope.”

@votedinanina.bsky.social serves on the Madison City Council and is frustrated at how kneecapped cities are. So she's running for the WI Assembly. Here she explains how we can address the cost of living crisis, especially housing costs and healthcare costs.

I’m grateful to have the support of Dane County Supervisor Michele Ritt! As local elected officials, we both understand the need for all levels of government to work together to deliver for working people.
The power of the people is stronger than the people in power. #NoKings ✊🚫👑

Proud to stand with neighbors from across Madison today to send a loud and clear message to this authoritarian administration. No kings. No fascism. No compromise on human rights.

Tomorrow. Be there for America’s future, Wisconsin.

No Kings.
No Monarchy or Autocracy.
Our grassroots campaign is about bringing everyone together to fight for bold, progressive change in Wisconsin.

Thank you to our incredible supporters (including the four-legged ones!) who are making this possible – with love, joy, and homemade campaign signs! ❤️🌸🐶
In the richest country in the world, it is unconscionable that any person should go hungry.

As the cost of living continues to rise, our government should be doing everything in its power to support food pantries and nonprofits that are on the frontlines of fighting hunger in our communities.
Madison-area food pantries say they'll miss federal hunger report
Dane County pantries like Second Harvest Food Bank used a now-canceled annual USDA report to track national trends in food insecurity.

Proud to have the endorsement of MMSD School Board Member Nicki Vander Meulen.

Nicki fights tirelessly for our public schools, educators, and people with disabilities. We both understand the importance of investing in our kids and building a future where everyone is celebrated and included.

Today we honor National Indigenous Peoples’ Day, recognizing the rich cultures, history, and continued resilience of Native and Indigenous communities.

We can’t erase the past. We must acknowledge it and work toward justice.
Queer and trans youth need to know that someone is inside the State Capitol who understands them and will fight for them. I’m running for the Assembly to put people before profits, protect our most vulnerable neighbors, and make sure everyone in Wisconsin feels welcome and valued for who they are.
Coming out is resistance. When we share our stories, we speak truth to power and make others feel safer to share theirs. And today, visibility has never been more important. 🏳️‍⚧️
Getting into politics was never in the plan for me. But I felt called to serve and fight for change in our government. Being an out and proud trans woman on the campaign trail isn’t easy, but I know it has the power to save lives and make a real impact.
I lost family and friends who wouldn’t accept me for who I am, but I also gained a loving network of chosen family and learned more about myself than ever before. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Today is #NationalComingOutDay, and I want to share my story with you. I was born in an evangelical family in Texas. When I transitioned in my thirties, I was fearful – fearful for my safety, my life, and my new future.

When I finally began living as my most authentic self, it changed everything.
It’s not radical to want more for the working class. It’s not radical to fight for higher wages, healthcare for all, and housing as a human right.

It’s not radical to care for one another.
Thank you to Madison's Northside Action Team for hosting a great potluck and an important conversation about the state of our country. Democracy only works when we all get involved!
This campaign is about putting the working class at the heart of Wisconsin’s future. But it’s going to take all of us! ✊

Working people are all too often excluded from our democratic process. Running for office is hard, and it certainly isn’t cheap. I can’t take much time off work to campaign and I can’t afford to self-fund.
My fight for equality, dignity, and opportunity for everyone comes from lived experience.

I’m a small business owner and work part-time at a local restaurant. I know how difficult it is to make ends meet, and I know that I’m not alone.

Unexpected good news on the bodily autonomy and repro front. Abortion is healthcare and most abortion in this country is medication abortion.

The evidence is overwhelming that medication abortion is safe and effective. The F.D.A. is right to continue the move towards accessibility.
