This is a solid looking thread ☺️ Hi I'm Josh and for #selfpromosaturday I want to share an "Art Nouvork Börg" game I've been working on called Belle Epocalypse. It's set in 1916 after the discovery of the 5th Scientific force: the Ectenic Force.

The Force Awakens was my first time going to see a Star Wars in theaters. I went with my sister and a few friends. When Kylo Ren took off his helmet for the first time, one of my sister’s friends said “he’s a weenie!” loudly and incredulously
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

Sometimes I’ll complain about a female character’s complex traits being simplified into archetypal fandomized shipping dynamics and someone will add “god yeah not every character has to be a lesbian!”

And it’s like. Well I didn’t say that

As a creative, the most annoying people on gods green earth are Idea Guys.

Idea Guys have never put one iota of critical thought into their ideas. Their first one is their best one and they get REAL mad when you suggest maybe their idea isn’t the best for the project.

A TTRPG is a game, yes, but it is also an art object.
I don't entirely agree with this thread but I do stand by the assertion that ttrpgs are a holistic product - they are the game design and the art and the book and (regrettably (IMO)) the marketing.
There’s this core contradiction in RPG design where the medium is scrappy as hell, and requires little more than some scribbles and a dream, but the commercial products are pricey and tremendously polished.

It’s easy to see, and upon seeing it, the first instinct is usually that Something Is Wrong.

Because the logical extrapolation is that it’s all an environment of deliberate exploitation, where the folks with the shiny books are bad actors, deliberately enforcing these expectations to keep out the forces of creativity.

That’s an exciting interpretation which suffers from being wholly wrong.

First, it rests upon an unspoken assertion that art, layout, graphic design and physical production don’t add value, because the “real” product is the idea of the game:

This is DEEP bullshit, and the kind of thinking that makes it easy to turn to LLMs to handle things you can’t understand.
