Many real people are there such as myself and a lot of (actual) friends and community.. doesn't change the fact that more and more of it is ai slop, pr and bots. Overwhelmingly so? Yes.
I'm still there because of my crew being there but trying to make the shift.

You have to watch out though.. it's always hard to know but there is evidence that heaps of the right wing leaning shitstirring responses are from bots... Of all kinds. There's solid evidence for this just don't have it with me right now.

Holy shit I thought for a second this dumb-ass was the founder of DVC - aka Data Version Control dvc.org. Thankfully not. If data versioning was your whole thing hopefully you'd have a better attitude to data retention. Doesn't make him any less of a nong, though.

Embarrassed to admit i didn't even realise he was still alive. Kinda just assumed he was killed in the crossfire like seems to happen usually overseas. Don't get me wrong I felt great sadness at the time, and went to vigils etc, but my heart was with the survivors. In retrospect, good job nzpol(ice)

The US fundamentally incapable of being taken seriously right now .. I see we're just gonna let the START II treaty lapse (of 'end of cold war' 1993, fame)... But not that all sides don't want to continue it in some form. Rubio waffling on about China. Media pretending it makes sense. But no..

Anger at ICE and the adminstration and the elites is understandable... But you will need to actually deal with the past, as they have done in Germany. Or South Africa. So I'm thinking we agree - maybe don't sweep it under the rug this time. Maybe a lack of trials and investigations only helped create the festering wound of racism and resentment that contributes to the situation today. The US won't be unique in having to confront past crimes - learn from history..

Given a choice between hunting SS and killing them with no trial (and probably a few others) 'like the Soviets' or having Nuremberg like trials, there actually is no choice. The whole point is to be better than them. Also you need to learn more history if you think WW1 was a war against fascism.

Wouldn't it have made better sense to borrow in NZD - NZD denominated bonds sold direct to foreigner investors - so that at least if it all goes to hell we're not trying to pay back debt in someone else's currency while our currency is plunging?
Or does that market not exist at any interest rate?

Central bank debt is an interesting one. Does the fact that "central bank debt" so closely matches government debt mean that the NZ Government borrowed from Reserve Bank who then borrowed from overseas? If so is it mostly USD denominated?

Whoever they are they really really know their stuff. I am imagining someone who already works in a pretty important economist role but wants to have the freedom to actually just say how it is. Otoh maybe I just need to do more research.

One of the obvious impacts of Govt not investing into a downturn is tanking taxes (= higher deficits). Countless examples across the world, but sadly most of our reckonomics commentariat are small island caveman monetarists, so, prices going up? Ug. Throw kiwis on the dole, ug, crash economy. [🧵1/n]
