Finally, some good news 🧀
"A new study has found that eating 50g or more of high-fat cheese a day correlates with a lower risk of developing dementia. That means all cheeses with more than 20 percent fat content, including brie, gouda, cheddar, parmesan, gruyere, and mozzarella." www.sciencealert.com/cheese-linke...

In Ecuador’s Los Cedros cloud forest, activists used the country’s constitutional “rights of nature” law to stop mining. A landmark 2021 ruling protected the forest—but the fight isn’t over.

Does nature have rights? In 2008, Ecuador said yes. Doing so forced a reckoning with the country’s mining past.

A deep dive into the aftermath of San Jose, CA traffic violence on a Desi immigrant and her family:

“We pray for her to come back to normal every day. Police say it’s a normal case. The man driving was not arrested and the police say it’s a civil case not criminal.”

Thank you for this thread! In the US we love tidy narratives about heroes and their bootstraps, stories that don't fundamentally challenge power. The civil rights movement was nonhierarchical, grassroots, distributed. We should celebrate folks who lit the path, and also not flatten their stories.
Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.

The smear campaign against CAIR sets a dangerous precedent.

I personally witnessed staff at the local chapter offer concrete skilled support to my gay, non-Muslim friends after they were assaulted.

Are these the people being designated as "foreign terrorists" spreading "sharia law"?

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

They need to follow through for the ACA demands and make the pain people are going through worth it. Otherwise they just are torturing the public without intention to achieve anything.
