Few new followers so probably time to say that I’ve put out five albums for their vinyl debut in the last 20 months. They are all different yet all exceptional albums. Available from me here:

I spent the day writing about music. It meant listening to this astounding piece of music, even if the final written piece has naff all to do with Thom or any of his bands.

Thanks to @state-of-sound-mag.bsky.social for asking me about micro labels and the reason we do what we do. Here’s me and others like @hiddenbayrec.bsky.social saying some things and generally agreeing it’s ace to do for many reasons: www.stateofsoundmagazine.com/an-outpourin...

What’s the best support you’ve seen?

(Bonus points if you’ve not seen them headline since.)

I’ve just learned that Fontaines D.C. covered One by U2. I know because it’s playing in the place I’m sat drying off from the downpour I got caught in.

They’ve somehow made it worse than the busker who used to play it on the Victoria Line to Brixton (and was briefly in the film, SW9).

Perfectly named section at Idle Hands Records. Didn’t look. Not my genre.

Good deed for the day done (not that there’s a limit!) by helping a blind chap, Steve, make his train so he could make his job interview. He’s walking the southwest coast trail later this year. Just brilliant resilience.

Anyway, kindness costs nothing. Spend away!

Coffee and chats with Davey Woodward and some more record shopping are on my to-do list. The sun is out, too. Happy Tuesday.

Massive power outage at the top of Gloucester Road meant some shops closed! Ah well, might see if I can squeeze in a few tomorrow. There were some I passed up in Wanted Records so I didn’t overspend early on, which meant only one album bought!

Walked miles, too. My feet hurt.

Today is, so I’ve just learned, the saddest day of the year. I’ll be spending it trawling through some of Bristol’s record shops, so that’s two fingers to sadness from me.

There are also several chazzas nearby.

Feel free to come along if you’re local.

Bristol is foggy and damp but also ace. Nice to be back. Tomorrow I hit the record stores. Well, some of them.

One for fans of The Sundays, this EP is from Faith Over Reason whose singer Moira Lambert sang on Saint Etienne’s cover of Neil Young’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart, and also sang with label mate Heather Nova on her album, These Walls. Really lovely jangly indie. 🙏🏼 @lookingforthemagic.bsky.social

Found some PR copies of The Tracksuit Trilogy that have no inserts. I’ll see if I can locate some spare prints, though. I’ll chuck them up tomorrow for a reduced price, but they’ll ship without the handmade accoutrements. And possibly without prints if I can’t find the box.

There are 3 copies only.

This popped up on my headphones as I make my way home from a rainy London and, oh my, it’s just a beautiful song. Even better, I’ll be bringing this song and the album it’s from to vinyl for the first time later this year: danarborise.bandcamp.com/track/days-e...

Planning my Bristol record shop route for next week. Will be catching up with the ever brilliant Davey Woodward while I’m in the city.

As ever, if you want to save on postage I am happy to bring down any Unspun Heroes releases and meet up. Or just meet up.

Ever had a band you love live on stage but don’t care much for their studio work, or vice versa?
January 12, 2026 at 9:12 AM
Morning! No funny Mastodon posts to share today, but I do still have a ticket to see Emma Tricca at The Betsy in London this afternoon. With Polly Paulusma and Pete Greenwood, too. @ me if that’s of interest.

If you had a two disc album, what would be your preference for Side D - blank/etched, or with only one 10-minute song on?

I’m trying to work out a running order for the next Unspun Heroes release and this is what’s making my brain hurt.
